Summary of Rogerian

Intro
1.               Hook

Personal Story

2.               Mapping their arguments

1.) You believe in taking away opportunities for women and trapping them into a subservient role. (Take from their argument about how a woman feels trapped)

2.) God calls women to use their talents (Explain that nurturing and teaching are in fact talents women can posses)

3.) She will attract the wrong types of men. (Lazy men who go to college is possible)

4.) She will not learn to be a wife and mother (correct college is not where you learn to be a wife or mother. *I dont think thats a degree

5.) The cost of a degree is becoming more difficult to recoup. (personal story relating to struggling to pay for college)

3.             Wrong or Right arguments

1.) first argument is wrong because the freedom to not rely on someone else for income is the opposite of trapped (F****** logic)

2.) Women are indeed capable of being great mothers and teachers, but both parents are teachers. Children watch closely what both parents do

3.) Wrong because her judgement skills and critical thinking skills taught to her at college will help assist her in rooting out a "Lazy" partner

4.) She will not learn to be a wife and mother, but if the provider were to go she might just learn how to become the provider for her child. (single mothers or widows)

5.) The average for a 4 year is $11,548 (http://collegecost.ed.gov/catc/)

bachelor's degree was $46,900 median  $30,000 for those with a high school credential. (http://nces.ed.gov/fastfacts/display.asp?id=77)

In 1 year 16 thousand difference in the median. In 4 years it is more than possible that someone may earn over what was spent for college. This making a better "insurance" policy than insurance.

4.            Compromise

The best tools for your daughter may just be college. I hope that college is a better way to find a romantic partner than a bar or some stranger met on an online dating site or just anther person in the small community that is the church they were raised. Broaden our knowledge through college and teach through our faith.

Welding research paper outline

Intro

1.               Hook

Personal Story about welding at work and realizing how little was known on why no one was prepping their weld the same

2.               Motive

A) Nearly every plan in the sky has welding on it and the quality of the welding and the manufacturing of those parts is vital keeping a plane in the sky
B) Analytical approaches to welding such as the movement of the bead the prep of the weld and the actual welding application can vary and some even ask for more research themselves
C) A deeper understanding of welding will be fundamental in refining the process to not only increase manufacturing value, but to help keep everyone safe in the air

3.               Thesis

Further research is required in welding joints to improve the manufacturing process of aerospace welds

Body:

1.               The basics of welding. Weld prep, Arcing, Torch movement and puddle movement in an easy to understand and basic approach. Use some of my simple quotes from un-scholarly sources to open in the first paragraph.
2.               Weld Prep The first step of weld and what is said about cleanliness, angle edge, clamping, setting up a machine and a comparison and contrast between welders.

3.               Arcing and the differences in the types of welding. The question must be asked why the different welding techniques are not documented on different materials in a spreadsheet format based on high tension requirements

4.               Torch movement and the variance between a manual weld and machine welds.  Yag Lasers welds and AMET welds and the different application, but testing per application must be done to find proper weld penetration

5.               Puddle Movement. The Differences between MIG, TIG manual welding and laser or machine welding. Why is welding no perfect with a machine. What are the limitations for further research.

Conclusion:

1.               Summary of what we currently know about welds in a simple format. Focusing mainly on further research into not just the weld itself, but the very first step being weld prep and the start of every quality weld coming down to the prep of the material and also to the preparation of the machine for the weld. This means taking the time to make test samples even on the manufacturing level and not just in the research level.

2.               Paint a picture- Take in the process improvements that not only increase the bottom line of manufacturing, but also further the development of a stronger and more accurate weld. The process although expensive comes with even greater rewards in quality and process. Savings from weld defects alone in a small aerospace company can be close to 25% of total rejections. That meaning reworking or even scrapping out due to not taking the time to fully understand a researching the weld of a specific part. The gains on quality will be just one more step towards keeping every plane in the sky and removing the fear or flying.

Reddit as a whole is an expressive, informative and strong social connection builder. It is creating communities around even the most basic ideas. This sense of community is the same as many of the great historical figures we can think of today. Whether that be Edgar Allen Poe’s expression through poetry, just as the Redditors under the sub Reddit r/poetry. The informative articles on renewable energy and the resources involved just as the wind turbine article in Reddit. The creation of strong social connections for womens rights or even women saving other women through the cotton club, Reddit ceases to amaze and comfort people on a much larger front, connecting people and being worthy of being a respectable mode of discourse. Reddit will continue on creating these communities and will not be surprising if it one day sparks a movement to change the world as we know it. A world full of people who look out for each other and continue to improve everyone’s way of life.

Thesis we need more research on weld prep

Main Ideas                                Small Ideas                                       Analyze

Welds always begin with       "Material has to be CLEAN CLEAN A good prep starts with a weld
prepping                                   CLEAN"                                           that doesn't have anything in the
                                                                                                            way

I would have to agree and it is seen through other sources to that
they all say the same thing.

"No mill scale"                                   Mill scale relates to cleanliness
and would be in the way

To complicate how do we define a
clean enough metal to weld on?
does it only start with scale or is
there more to it

Weld prep does not make up  "I also try to prep my material the          A good start to making an
for bad welding                        same every time that way I know         established variable that doesn't
if the weld looks like crap it is not       change
                                                 because of prep"
To complicate I would ask to
see what scientific tests have been
done with controlled variables and
manipulated variables

Main Ideas                                Small Ideas                                       Analyze

Weld prep is an important      "Contaminents may result in             Cleaning on every source is stated
step                                           instability or contaminated               but not explained
                                                  welds"

I would have to agree and it is seen through other sources to that
they all say the same thing, but
is never operationally defined the
same way every single time

"Clamp may be required"                     Prep may not only what you do
to the metal, but also the part as
                                                                                                              a whole

I would have to agree that it would
be near impossible to weld to items
together if the distance between
the two parts is too great

Angle of weld will sometimes  "When moving hold your torch         Radiating heat is better from a

up for a bad angle prep

A balance between the skill and
the prepper is what is truly
                                                                                                             needed, but good weld prep
appears to be more step by step

"Body in Trouble" by Nancy Mairs is an essay written from the viewpoint of a handicapped woman, but more specifically one in a wheelchair and other physical disabilities. She begins her essay by paraphrasing the bible and how illness and handicaps were related to demon possession.
Nancy elaborates on that by relating it to the modern time and how now that would be considered silly due to modern medicine. Even with this she lists many phrases that would entail a healthy body being the analogy for positive characteristics and then showing the negative analogies to those who are not able bodied. Such as "take it laying down" and "without a leg to stand on" and even the lists ones such as "confined to a wheelchair".
She takes these analogies and then not only relates them to her handicap, but also to that of a witch by being "bent" and "crooked". She then says not only is that of a woman who if ill-body, but instead even women in general with "All witchcraft come from carnal Lust which is in Women insatiable" elaborating on how language and analogies it is harmful just being an able bodied woman, but to be a woman in a wheelchair even that much harder.
Taking all that in she explains from personal experience that feeling of not even existing to crowds when she was going to a luncheon to honor the Dali Lama. That crowd was large enough she has to take her chair to the wall.
Mairs then takes this personal experience and relates it to postmodern criticism and feminism and how they use the metaphor for anyone of the non dominate societal standard of being pushed against a wall
She relates all of this to her experience with the Catholic church and the idea of a good woman. She describes her handicaps and then relates them to her inability for "doing" as the Catholic church wants her to do. Not even so much as to "hold the ladle" for soup. She then establishes herself in that she does what she can and that is closest she can do to "conceptualize not merely a habitable body but a habitable world: a world that wants me in it"
In Gloria Anzaldua "How to Tame a Wild Tongue" she begins writing with a memory from childhood and the dentist. The Dentist complaining about the movement of her tongue. From this memory she is to tell about how it is the this same wild tongue that would have her in trouble in school. However she doesn't just recognize as a Spanish speaker, but rather as a Chicano speaker. Neither English or Spanish and from not being recognized by either of these languages Chicano was born. However it the paper is more focused on not just being a Chicano, but rather a Chicano woman. The idea that the women where speaking Chicano is so unclear that just by speaking they can be considered not Spanish enough or not know enough English. You must be recognized as Spanish, but be well versed in English. However to English speakers it could be offensive to speak English as a second language. It is from this conflict Gloria speaks about the conflict of being Chicano and speaking several of the versions be it Spanglish Tex-Mex or others. She takes in that her language is her as much as she speaks it and that to say that Chicano is anything less is to say that she is less. However it is rising from this inner conflict that she realizes she is strong and ends to say that "But more than we count the blows, we count the days the weeks the years the centuries the eons until the white laws and commerce ans customs will rot in the deserts they've created, lie bleached" She writes about how as a people they will endure until white law over language is over and her people have endured and will continue.

"If Black English Isn't a Language, Then Tell Me, What Is?" Is a short essay by James Baldwin describing Black English and the importance of the language and the power of it and it shouldn't even be asked if it is a language. It is a language like any other that defines you and reveals you as a speaker.
He goes on to describe other languages and that they dismiss each others as dialects instead of a powerful form of communication. From the French language Paris to Quebec would be unable to effectively communicate. It reveals them to each other and separates out of necessity. England dialects reveal who where and what you will become just by speaking.
Black English is no different and was made out of necessity for when the blacks came to the Americas They were form different tribes and thus needed a form of communication that the whites couldn't understand so that they could have a power behind them.
If black English was not around James Baldwin insists that America would not be as it is. Jazz could not possibly exist, but from the whites interpretations they "purified" it and gave root to the Jazz age and then took other phrases and then termed them into "getting down" with or relating the black language. These purified phrases are the refusal to accept the dehumanization of the black people.
It is from this that whites never taught blacks and that it is this that cause so many black children to be lost and not from the language in what they speak. It is the refusal of America to learn from its mistakes and instead celebrate "criminal mediocrities".

Rhetorical Analysis of Malcolm X's Prison studies

Malcolm X thesis of self education is key to self empowerment is demonstrated mostly through pathos throughout the writing. He makes strong attempts at emotional persuasion with self achievement after just writing the first page of the dictionary all the way to writing the entire dictionary out to finally reading and understanding entire books. He also uses Pathos in a competitive way when speaking about the other prison debaters or when Bimbi would take charge of every conversation and how he would like to achieve the same. He establishes his ethos by referencing the dictionary and how well read he is in it and even uses logos analogy of a dictionary is like a encyclopedia. Making his Ethos seem like he knows the dictionary and the encyclopedia. He wraps up his story with " My homemade education gave me a little bit more sensitivity to the deafness, dumbness and blindness that was afflicting the black race in America." To establish himself as educated and to give a sense of understanding a knowledge base for his Ethos

In "They Treat Girls Differently Don't They" the author Timothy Harper tries to address the differences in the classroom between the way girls and boys are treated. The text begins by using a study from the American Association of University Women showing that 4 out of 5 times teachers call on a boys rather than a girl. However Timothy Harper points out that the differences are not only in the classroom, but as a big picture social behavior.
Timothy states that critics believe that the differences in the classroom start from kindergarten. Girls start just as boys in behavior and are changed by high school to be taught that math and science careers are not what they should be interested in and that gender biased teaching leads to girls in  school to believe they have restraints while boys believe it is a place of opportunity.
When videos were shown to teachers the teachers were surprised to see a bias in their classroom on the hands they picked to answer questions, but Director Elllen Silber of the Institute of for the Women and Girls at Marymount College explains that blame on teachers shouldn't be the issue. The teachers through school are exposed to boys and girls differently and respond based on cultural influences.
Pat O'Reily a professor in developmental psychology explains some differences in diagnosis for ADD for boys than girls and some of the cultural differences may enter through different amounts of attention that little boys need and the feelings of being left out that girls feel starting from a young age. Boys form different relationships in schools such as hierarchies and girls typically form more collaborative relationships.
Timothy Harper at the end gives a few examples of  what parents at home, parents at schools  and even teachers can do to make themselves and other more aware of this gender bias and how to influence others about how to make a more equal classroom environment.
